    This is a tragic story but the underlying "choosing obedience to metaphysical abstractions over concrete relations with people" hit way too close to home for me bc this is one reason I no longer communicate w my mom.

    a large speckled creature with flappy ears is lying in some sand with a ball between their front paws. er, flippers? anyway, he’s tossing his head back and making loud ”woo" noises at regular intervals. you know, like a seal would.
